A Community Affairs response to COVID-19

As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, offices at The University of Alabama are operating under a limited business model and campus is, for all intents and purposes, closed, including offices and centers throughout the Division of Community Affairs. This includes the Center for Community-Based Partnerships, the Student Community Engagement Center, and the Crossroads Civic Engagement Center.

In order to practice social distancing, we have canceled (for the time being) the remaining special events we normally host during the spring semester — from Realizing the Dream community activities to our annual Excellence in Community Engagement Awards, from our PTLA graduation and Board of Advisors spring meeting to our annual New Faculty Community Engagement Tour.

However, our Community Affairs team continues to work on the Division’s programs — from  spare rooms, living rooms, kitchens, and anywhere else a make-shift home office can be set up. In addition to program planning for the future, we will be looking at the possibility of re-scheduling some of our events and will do our best to keep you informed.

As a Division that bases its programs and activities on community engagement, we find ourselves in a strange place. But we know that the work we do with all of you will be increasingly important when we get to the other side of this worldwide pandemic.

In the interim, we encourage you to follow the University’s updates at healthinfo.ua.edu, and to stay abreast of Community Affairs happenings on our website and on our social media pages.

We wish you good health, and we look forward to the day when we can get back to the work of community engagement on a face-to-face basis.
